Everything you need to know before booking your first lesson with Bill.
Not at all. Bill teaches students of all skill levels — from complete beginners who have never held a fly rod, to experienced anglers looking to refine their casting technique or learn new methods. Every lesson is tailored to where you are right now.
Fly fishing uses a weighted line and an artificial fly (made of feathers, fur, or synthetic materials) to mimic the natural food of fish. Unlike conventional fishing, the cast itself propels the nearly weightless fly — making casting technique central to the sport. It's both an art and a science, and incredibly rewarding to learn.
No. All necessary lesson equipment is provided at no charge. If you already own gear and want to practice with it, you're welcome to bring it along.
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes you don't mind getting wet. Sunglasses with polarized lenses are highly recommended — they reduce glare on the water and help you spot fish. Sunscreen and a hat are also a good idea. Bill will take care of the rest.
Bill offers private one-on-one lessons and small group sessions. Two-handed and Spey casting instruction is also available. Contact Bill to discuss the right lesson for your experience and goals.
